Character Name: James "Jimmy" Hopkins
Canon: Bully
Canon Point: Chapter 4, Discretion Assured
Background/History: His childhood was unstable, what with his mother getting divorced and remarried several times. Before coming to Bullworth, Jimmy had been expelled from several different schools due to various degrees of misconduct, graffiti, violence, and disrespecting staff. He always went to physical violence or pranks when it came to getting bullies off his back or out of his way. Throughout his school life, it was a constant battle between Jimmy and keeping any bullies off his back.

Personality: Jimmy's very rough around the edges, he's essentially built a wall around himself that separates him from the rest of society. Unless he's really agitated, he rarely lets his true feelings shine through to others in an honest, not sarcastic or snarky manner. While he's not scared of getting hurt, it's happened enough times that he'd rather save himself the trouble. Because of this Jimmy easily brushes off most minor annoyances and remarks. Insults and threats however end him him getting almost immediately defensive. When dealing with people, he usually expects them to respect him first before he returns the favour.

Jimmy's no-nonsense when it comes to trying to insult him and he'll usually respond with a "tough-guy" act and threats (such as when Petey insults his intelligence and he immediately starts to act up), or violence (such as when he's hit with a slingshot, chases the kid across half the school, and ends with him throwing bricks at him until he gives up). Basically, he doesn't take shit from anybody. He's still a kid though, and when an overwhelming majority of the people around him are against him, it's hard to not feel down and on edge.

Jimmy sympathies with kids that are weaker and get picked on because he'd been in the same position once (and for the latter, still is). This drives him to sometimes stick up for the little guy and defend him (when bullies start to pick on Petey, he makes them back off). Of course Jimmy isn't the bonding type, so while he does do the right thing, he isn't always nice about it. He tends to be rude and blunt, and even insulting to those he helps. He has a good nature, he just can't show it without being thorny.

For example, when Algie asks for help getting to his locker without getting beat up, Jimmy still takes $5 from him to do it. There's also the time he takes suggestive photographs of Mandy since she's been nasty to him and others throughout the year, but when those photos get blown up and posted around town he finds her upset on the bleachers. Jimmy decides to help her after she says she "probably deserves it" and only wanted to be popular/liked. It shows he's willing to forgive people if they've wronged him, he's not completely unforgiving and if that other person shows remorse he'll lighten up. In Mandy's case, he was driven to actually show sympathy directly to somebody for the first time when he said everybody was laughing at him too. At one point he also sympathies with Mr. Galloway, who not only respects Jimmy, but has become alcoholic because Mr. Hattrick does some underhanded grading methods. Jimmy even goes so far as to try and help his addiction.

At times, Jimmy can also be big-headed. When the whole school is practically worshiping him, he gets a huge ego and ignores obvious threats he'd usually pay more attention to. When he flirts with girls (or boys) he'll also really ham things up to romance movie levels of cheesy. The same applies to when talking to authority or teachers who talk down to him; he'll make himself sound like a real upstanding citizen.

Throughout the game Jimmy is shown to be more brawn than brains. While he definitely is more acutely away of the certain irony of situations, or ridiculousness in general, he's not much of a planner. Jimmy is used to solving problems with typical pranks and violence, but at Bullworth, thanks to Gary screwing him over, he learns to utilize others' help for his own gain to get the bullies at the school under control. Basically, Jimmy will let other people come up with the plans, while he does the dirty work. As long as things work out in the end, he doesn't care. Often times he'll do things he doesn't even want to do, or knows he shouldn't do, with enough goading or cash incentive. If it involves doing something that could get him in trouble, sometimes he simply can't resist. Jimmy knows he should act better, but sometimes the impulse to cause a little trouble or have some fun is too much.

Abilities/Powers: No special powers, but he is pretty damn good at brawling.

Items/Weapons: His scoped Super Slingshot, a clunky B&W camera, and a skateboard.

Sample Entry:

[Jimmy's voice comes in, no more or less concerned sounding than usual. He wasn't much of a conversationalist, and didn't normally bother using his phone, but he lost right now. It was getting dark out, too. Not good.]

Hey. Somebody humour me here, I'm at some garbage subway station--how do I get back to the apartments from here?

[While he may not sound worried, the long pause he takes and just his words alone clearly show he is.]

Call me crazy, but I swear something's watching me.

Sample Entry Two:

Call him crazy, but Jimmy just had to get to Haven North. That tunnel full of monsters could kiss his ass, he'd just book it. When he heard about it, about how much nicer it was compared to this dump--he wanted to go, just to see it. He just wanted to be out of here. So, that morning Jimmy stuffed all his belongs into a backpack and headed out towards the subway.

Halfway there, Jimmy realized that if there really were monsters down there, he better get some back-up. He was tough, but not that tough, and the last thing he wanted was to get killed. So back to the apartment he went. He grabbed his board and hopped on it, rolling down the halls of each floor like he owned the damn place.

"Hey! Who wants to go to Haven North? Come on, let's get outta this dump!"
